One practical reality sits underneath all of that: this is a full-ship charter of roughly 2,500 to 2,800 guests, with one detailed listing showing a maximum capacity of 2,770. That helps explain the concentrated community appeal, but also the crowd intensity. If you want a high-energy, highly social queer holiday, that scale can be a feature. If you want lots of built-in quiet, it can feel like a lot.

Choose Atlantis if you want a concentrated LGBTQ+ community, event-led entertainment, themed parties, and a built-in social environment.

Choose a regular Virgin sailing if you want more control over your pace, a standard Virgin voyage experience, and a calmer holiday structure that is not organized around a charter program.

The official itinerary describes Thanksgiving Day as a sea day. It also presents Atlantis entertainment and performers, DJs, themed parties, multiple dining venues, and a strongly social, party-focused atmosphere.

Official schedule and port times

Two timing details matter more than they look at first glance:

• San Juan’s 10:00 p.m. departure gives you a real late-day and evening window, which matters if LGBTQ+ nightlife is part of why that port interests you.
• Puerto Plata’s 7:00 p.m. departure gives you a longer day ashore than a quick in-and-out stop, but it also means you should check excursion return timing carefully instead of assuming every tour leaves a giant buffer.

Pricing, as listed in September 2026

Atlantis’ official listing does not publish fares on the page itself. Third-party listings reviewed in September 2026 showed this starting structure, per person, double occupancy, plus port fees and gratuities:

• Balcony / Sea Terrace: from about $1,649 to $2,199, depending on category
• Suite: from $2,499

Atlantis marketing has also used “from $999” in older promotional framing. The listings reviewed in September 2026 start at $1,199, not $999. Treat the lower number as a stale or narrower promotional anchor unless you have a current bookable screen, cabin category, and terms in writing.

Confirmed inclusions to separate from the hype

Confirmed on the official Atlantis listing for this sailing:

• All premium dining is included, room service included
• Fitness classes are included
• Basic Wi-Fi is included
• Non-alcoholic beverages are included
• Alcohol is not included

That sounds small, but it matters when you compare this charter with a regular Virgin booking. Do not assume “all-inclusive” means open bar. It does not here.

That distinction matters. Atlantis is the event organizer and charter host. Virgin Voyages operates the ship. You are not simply buying a normal Virgin voyage with a few extra parties added. You are joining an Atlantis event layered onto Virgin’s shipboard operation.

What a regular Virgin Thanksgiving sailing means

A regular Virgin Voyages Thanksgiving sailing is an ordinary commercial voyage, not an Atlantis charter. It follows Virgin’s normal booking process, shipboard policies, onboard programming, and guest communications.

Virgin’s Thanksgiving article discusses holiday dining, seasonal activities, entertainment, and adults-only travel. However, that article was updated in 2025 and contains 2025-specific references and offers. Treat those dated promotions as stale for this comparison.

Virgin’s holiday sailing page describes festive menus, holiday activities, decorations, photo opportunities, and seasonal programming. It also lists holiday voyages across several ships.

A visible official Virgin itinerary page currently shows an 8-night 2027 Eastern Caribbean & Bimini Beach Club sailing aboard Resilient Lady with Philipsburg, San Juan, Samaná, and Bimini. That is not the 2026 Atlantis Thanksgiving cruise and must not be presented as the same sailing. Check the exact dates, fares, availability and itinerary directly with Virgin Voyages.

Match the sailing to your travel style

LGBTQ+ travelers

Atlantis is the clearer choice if you want the trip itself to be organized around a gay and queer community. The event listing positions the cruise as a chosen-family holiday with dedicated entertainment and social programming.

A regular Virgin sailing can still suit LGBTQ+ travelers who want adults-only cruising without a charter structure. The key difference is expectation: you are joining a standard voyage, not entering an event where the guest community and programming are the central product.

Solo travelers

Atlantis may make it easier to find social entry points because many guests are participating in the same event ecosystem. That can reduce the awkwardness of starting from zero, especially for solo travelers who enjoy parties and group energy.

It does not guarantee friendship, a roommate match, a solo meetup, or a particular level of inclusion.

A regular Virgin sailing offers more freedom to choose when to socialize. Ask the responsible provider to confirm, in writing:

• Bathroom and doorway specifications
• Mobility-device storage and charging rules
• Dining and food-allergy procedures
• Medical equipment requirements
• Sensory considerations and quieter areas

Budget separately for flights, hotels, transfers, excursions, travel insurance, onboard extras, and event-specific additions. Thanksgiving air and hotel demand can make a missed connection especially expensive. Consider arriving in Miami with a buffer and avoiding a same-day flight plan that leaves no recovery time.

Atlantis materials also point travelers to an official host hotel and a pre-cruise meet-and-greet party the day before embarkation. Confirm the hotel and the party date directly with Atlantis. That is one more reason the Miami buffer is not just defensive planning. If you want a softer arrival, easier check-in rhythm, and an early social entry point before embarkation day, arriving by the host-hotel window makes logistical sense.

On the return, Atlantis does not recommend flights before 10:00 a.m. Disembarkation begins around 7:00 a.m., and “ship in port” is not the same thing as “you are at the airport.”

Atlantis may deliver the community you want, but the social intensity can be tiring. A full-ship event with roughly 2,500 to 2,800 guests may make it harder to avoid late-night noise, crowded venues, or a packed schedule. Event-specific terms may also be less flexible than the standard booking structure you expected.

A regular Virgin sailing may feel calmer and easier to personalize, but it will not provide the same curated charter community. You may need to make more effort to meet people, and holiday programming may be lighter or different from what you imagined.
