Military cruise rates, with the mechanics attached.

Nine lines, what each one actually gives, and the part everyone else leaves out — the price code to book against, who checks your eligibility and when, and which document each category needs.

Live military fares we hold right now

Most military cruise pages show no prices at all. These are real, current fares against the military rate — not brochure percentages.

What each line actually gives

Checked 2 September 2026. These are programme terms, not fares — the two are frequently confused, and the confusion is what causes people to book the wrong rate.

Virgin Voyages

First responders too

US & Canada Military & First Responder Appreciation · checked 2026-09-02

Up to 15% off select voyage fares, and it stacks on top of other eligible promotions.

The only major that puts first responders on equal footing with military in the programme name, and one of the few where the discount stacks rather than replaces. We hold live fares for this line. See our Virgin Voyages rates page →

Royal Caribbean

Military rates, booked by price code · checked 2026-09-02

Up to around 10% off select sailings. Booked against price code MIL, PFD, MILITARY or MILITARY NRD.

Eligibility is checked by document inspection at the pier, not by an online verifier. The price code is the thing to get right at booking — the rate will not apply retroactively because you had the ID. See our Royal Caribbean rates page →

Disney Cruise Line

Military rates and onboard credit · checked 2026-09-02

$250 onboard credit per reservation on select 2026 Wish and Dream sailings. Advertised military rates have commonly run around 25–35% off eligible voyage fares.

The widest eligibility definition of the majors — includes National Guard, Reserves, Coast Guard, Space Force, and the commissioned corps of both the Public Health Service and NOAA.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Military appreciation discount · checked 2026-09-02

10% off for active duty, Reserve and National Guard members, veterans and their spouses.

Verified ONLINE rather than at the pier, which is a practical difference: you know the rate has applied before you travel rather than hoping the document passes at check-in. See our Norwegian Cruise Line rates page →

Carnival

Military Appreciation rates · checked 2026-09-02

Up to around 10% off select 2026 sailings.

Carnival also runs onboard military appreciation gatherings on many sailings, which is not a saving but is often the reason people pick the line.

Princess Cruises

Military Benefit Program · checked 2026-09-02

Up to $250 in onboard spending credit on select voyages, usable against spa, excursions and specialty dining.

Credit rather than fare reduction. Worth more than a percentage on a cheap sailing, worth less on an expensive one — the arithmetic flips depending on the fare.

Celebrity Cruises

Military and veteran savings · checked 2026-09-02

Per person for the first and second guest: $25 on Inside and Ocean View, $100 on Veranda, Concierge Class, AquaClass and The Retreat. Select sailings of 4 nights or longer.

A flat dollar amount, not a percentage — and the only major structured that way. On a long Retreat booking $100 each is a rounding error; on a short Inside cabin $25 each is a real share of the fare. Read it against your actual sailing.

Holland America Line

First responders too

Military Appreciation Offer · checked 2026-09-02

Reduced fares plus onboard spending credit on selected itineraries.

Explicitly extends to veterans, active military, reserves and first responders.

MSC Cruises

Unconfirmed

Military rates offered · checked 2026-09-02

MSC is consistently listed as offering military rates, but the 2026 structure could not be confirmed to the standard used for the other lines on this page.

Listed for completeness and flagged rather than quietly padded with a number we could not stand behind. Ask and we will confirm it against your specific sailing.

What to bring

The document is the rate. On lines that verify at the pier, an unacceptable ID is discovered at check-in — after the fare is booked and the flights are paid for.

Accepted proof by category. Individual lines vary; confirm against yours before sailing.
CategoryAccepted proof
Active dutyUS Uniformed Services ID (white)
RetiredRetiree ID (blue or red; tan where 100% disabled)
VeteranDD-214 plus current photo ID. Honourable discharge, generally 2 years' service or 6 months in a war zone
National Guard / ReserveCurrent service ID
Spouse / dependentDependent military ID (pink or tan)
First responderDepartment ID or badge — accepted only on lines whose programme covers first responders

Online verification and pier verification are not the same risk. Norwegian checks before you travel. Royal Caribbean inspects documents at the pier. On a pier-verified line, a document that turns out not to qualify is found at the worst possible moment — bring the DD-214 as well as the photo ID, even if you think one will do.

The military rate is not automatically the best rate

This is the part the discount pages leave out. A military fare is frequently non-refundable, and it does not always stack with the promotion running that week — on Virgin it does, on most lines it does not. More than occasionally the public promotional fare beats the military fare outright, and on a short sailing a flat $25 credit is worth less than a percentage off a higher fare.

Which means the useful thing is not a list of discounts. It is pricing both, on your actual sailing, and taking whichever is genuinely lower — including when that means not using the military rate at all.

Frequently asked

Do I book the military rate, or ask for it afterwards?

You book it. On Royal Caribbean the military rate is a price code — MIL, PFD, MILITARY or MILITARY NRD — selected at the time of booking. It does not apply retroactively because you turned out to be eligible. Getting the code right at booking is the whole game.

When does anyone actually check my eligibility?

It depends on the line, and the difference matters. Norwegian verifies online before you travel, so you know the rate has stuck. Royal Caribbean inspects documents at the pier, which means an unacceptable document at check-in is discovered at the worst possible moment. Bring the paperwork either way.

Do veterans qualify, or only active duty?

Veterans qualify on every major line, but the bar is usually an honourable discharge with roughly two years of service, or six months in a war zone, evidenced by a DD-214 plus current photo ID. Retirees, National Guard, Reserves and in many cases spouses also qualify.

Are first responders covered?

On some lines, not all. Virgin Voyages names first responders in the programme itself, and Holland America extends its offer to them. Most other majors are military and veteran only. If you are a first responder, the line you pick matters more than the sailing you pick.

Is the military rate always the cheapest option?

No, and this is worth saying plainly. A military rate is often non-refundable, and it does not always stack with the promotion running that week. On more than a few sailings the public promotional fare beats the military fare outright. The right answer is to price both — which is what I do before recommending either.

How does a flat credit compare to a percentage?

It flips with the fare. Celebrity gives $25 to $100 per person depending on cabin, and Princess up to $250 in onboard credit; Carnival, Royal and Norwegian discount around 10% of fare. On a short inside cabin the flat amounts win easily. On a long suite booking the percentage is worth several times more.

Tell me your branch and your sailing.

I will price the military rate against every promotion running on that sailing and send you both numbers — including when the honest answer is that the military rate is the worse of the two. Cruise bookings are complimentary.
